Dear Families,
Welcome to Weymouth High School!  My name is Justin Galusha and I will be your child’s History teacher this year.  I am so excited to start the year together and to get the opportunity to meet your new high school student.  WHS is a special place with rich opportunities for any future your child can dream up.  I am excited to start this journey together on Tuesday.

Ninth grade history focuses on Modern World History.  This is a wonderful course of study that I can’t wait for your child to explore.  During this course, we study the historical causes of current world problems and develop the critical thinking and literacy skills necessary for the next generation to solve those problems.  We'll study global history from 1750 to the present with a focus on the attainment of rights, growth of democracy, industrialization, nationalism, capitalism, impact of war and conflict, revolutions, imperialism/colonization, socialism/communism, totalitarianism, and fascism.

Freshmen year is a transition, but there are tangible things we will do to ensure your child’s success.  In our course, we’ll not only learn about World History, but we’ll grow and develop the academic skills necessary to thrive in any high school class.  Through concrete instruction and careful scaffolding, your child will become a better reader, writer and researcher.  Most excitingly, your child will be engaged in a yearlong geopolitical simulation game called the Your World Game as the class tries to solve the most pressing global problems.

I believe that communication is the key to any strong relationship. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time.  You can also utilize our class website at mrgalusha.org to check our daily calendar, course syllabus, or units of study.   Throughout the year, I’ll also send emails with class updates and important reminders.

I hope that you and your family have a great Labor Day Weekend.  If you’re doing any back-to-school shopping over the next week, you can pick up a 3 ring binder to help your student stay organized in this class.  I will also have some extras for students as well.

I wish you and your child a peaceful Monday night.  WHS is a loving and caring place and we can’t wait to welcome your child into our school family!

Best,

Justin Galusha
